The Story of Legacy Ranch and Rescue
When Tim and Rhonda Williams purchased 45 acres of land near their home in Elm Mott, Texas, they dreamed of having an equine rescue and sanctuary there. Born and raised in Texas, they were painfully aware of the number of discarded and abandoned horses that end up at livestock auctions and eventually in the slaughter pipeline.
Tens of thousands of horses every year are shipped across the border to Mexico or Canada because they are old, sick, injured or just not wanted anymore. Rhonda and Tim especially wanted to save the faithful Belgian draft horses that are often discarded by Amish farmers.

A Dream Come True

The dream became a reality in September 2022 when Tim and Rhonda purchased an emaciated Belgian draft horse who had been saved from a kill pen. They had rescued some animals before, but this gentle giant inspired them to pursue their vision in earnest. They formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and began the hard, often heartbreaking but immensely gratifying work of equine rescue.
When the big Belgian arrived at Legacy Ranch, they named him Big Mack. Soon Mack had a bevy of devoted followers on Facebook, and the story of Legacy Ranch and Rescue began to spread. Big Mack has now been joined by many other grateful horses who have been rescued and brought to the ranch to live the life they deserve.

Caring for horses, especially horses who are sick and neglected and injured, requires a huge commitment of time and resources, and just plain hard work. Rhonda and Tim do the ranch work themselves, making sure their animals have whatever they need.

Rhonda and Tim are committed to making others aware of the realities of the slaughter pipeline.
Legacy Ranch and Rescue is making a difference...one horse at a time!

How You Can Help
If you share Tim and Rhonda's passion for helping horses in need, please consider becoming a part of the Legacy Ranch community. If you live in the area, the horses would love to have you volunteer to help with feeding, watering, brushing, and giving them the attention and kindness they deserve.

The costs of feed and hay, veterinary care, farrier services, and property maintenance are significant. Anything you can give to help defray these expenses is greatly appreciated!
