Big Mack
The Gentle Giant
In September of 2022, Tim and Rhonda Williams heard about a Belgian draft horse who had been saved from a kill pen by another organization. The big horse was in really bad shape, emaciated and exhausted. His kind and gentle nature, despite his poor physical condition, won their hearts. They brought him home to Legacy Ranch and named him Big Mack. As Rhonda shared Mack's story, he captured the hearts of thousands of people who follow him and his buddies on Facebook.
Mack's Story
When Mack came to Legacy Ranch and Rescue, he was extremely underweight and suffering from a neuromuscular condition called "shivers" that affected his hind legs. He had been overworked on an Amish farm until he couldn't work anymore, then sent to an auction and ultimately to a "kill pen," where he awaited shipment to Mexico for slaughter.
A rescue organization paid his bail and pulled him from the kill pen. Eventually he was passed on to another rescue, but he was not receiving the proper nutrition and veterinary care he needed. Fortunately, Tim and Rhonda learned of his situation and purchased him for $800. They brought the big horse home to Legacy Ranch, determined to give him the better life he deserved.

Mack was one of the lucky ones, spared the fate of so many horses that end up in the slaughter pipeline. He found his way to Rhonda and Tim, who immediately began the challenging process of rehabilitation. Now Big Mack receives excellent care. and all the love and attention he needs to thrive in his new life.
